Interview with Torturing Nurse

The interview was conducted on January 17th 2006 via Email by Max-Leonhard von Schaper (Azchael) and Junky Cao of Torturing Nurse.

Azchael: Can you please first introduce yourself and your projects' members and tell me since when you are actively making music (each oneself / the project)?

Junky Cao: I am junky of torturing nurse, and tn is harshnoise/noisecore group from shanghai,china!

tn=Youki+Misizi+Miriam+Junky now!!

I play music since 1998, they are: Mint(post Punk)/Goddot(post punk)/Hutaojiazi(post punk)/JUNKYARD(no wave)/Jedung Kying(drums/vocal+software), making noise since 2004; Youki has Xucheng(sound art)/OO(noise)/BSOD(sound art);Misuzu has Sui(lo-fi)/ JUNKYARD(no wave); Miriam has OO(noise) project.

Azchael: What kind of instruments / equipment are you using?

Junky Cao: We don't use any laptop in recording and gig, we just use contact mic/metal/pedal/guitar/vocal/mixer, etc.

Azchael: What kind of style are you playing and why are you playing this in genre?

Junky Cao: I only play harshnoise/noisecore/junk noise/drone/shitcore, because i hate all kind of ryhtm and melody.

Azchael: Do you consider yourself as a Chinese band, a Shanghai band or a electro band? Please give us some reasons.

Junky Cao: I am from shanghai, china and I hate all genre names!

Azchael: Which foreign band or artist would you like to jam with?

Junky Cao: Hijokaidan / Incapacitants / The Gerogerigegege / Masonna / Hanatarash / The Hater / Xome / Cock E.S.P.......

Azchael: What do you think about the domestic scene - music in general and the electro scene?

Junky Cao: I don't want to talk about it, and I don't think we are an electro band, ever and never!!

Azchael: Which other domestic electro band / project do you like? Do you also like rock music?

Junky Cao:  !

Azchael: What was the most important event for your project and what has changed? What was the impact?

Junky Cao: Torturing Nurse!

Azchael: How do you see the Chinese scene in the next ten years? What are your expectations?

Junky Cao: I think all type of music will develope.

Azchael: What do you think about www.rockinchina.com?

Junky Cao: I think it some like http://www.yaoyun.com , one is in Japanese and the other is in English.

Azchael: Where do see your influences?

Azchael: People not used to electronic noise music haven't it very easy to get to the meaning of your music. Can you please describe in a few sentences what you want to express within your music?

Junky Cao: Because I hate rythem and medoldy. Ever hate music.

Azchael: I have seen that Torturing Nurse has quite a lot of records and participated in several compilations. And that just within a very short time. How did you get all the contacts?

Junky Cao: Till now about 18 releases published in china/usa/uk/astru/belgium/italy,and some is I direct send e-mail to contact and other is noise lable contace me.

Azchael: Which song do you like best of your own work?

Junky Cao: All of them are great.

Azchael: Have you ever thought about "destroying" another song you hate? Or covering a song you like very much?

Junky Cao: Till now no!
