The band was formed in 1994 by Xie Tian Xiao and Li Ming and performed over the years until in 1998 their first drummer Liang Xu left and formed his own band 'Hypersensitive Flower'.

After a restart of the band with their new drummer Wu Rui from Ningxia, Cold Blooded Animal was signed by Scream Records and released their first CD in 2000.

Between 1997 and 2002, Cold Blooded Animal performed hundreds of gigs in Beijing, released their first album (2000) and played on tour in China and the U.S. In 2001, they were the first Chinese rock band to appear at the South By Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.

In 2003, XTX rejoined the band and they renamed themselves as X.T.X. & Cold Blooded Animal.
