The idea of the Metal / Deathcore / Alternative band Renyu was born in 2000.
Actually from Shen Zhen the band Mermaid was created by its leader and vocal Yan -aka Hidow-and had Gerry as bassist, Metal on drums and Denis on the guitar.
Together they held their first live concert at the university.
Motivated by a few inaccuracies on their live performance they began to play with the individual kind of music.
Influenced by many different styles they formed their own kind of music.
Between 2000 and 2002 they won several music contests and held performances in Shenzhen, since 2002 also Beijing and Shanghai have been an important fanbase.
Through some accidents the Line Up changed and after Mermaid used to be three-men-group new members were added to the band: Ultra sexy MiNi on guitar and Richard on bass. The part on drums was replaced by its old drummer Metal again.
One year later they joined the "Hundred Thing Cenozoic" Contest and made it to the final.
2003 is the birth year of Renyu [Chinese = Mermaid]. Almost all member left their hometown to study in the capital Beijing Mermaid became also caught in the current of changes.
Again changes on the Line Up were held. Denis changed his position from guitarist to bassist and Neco became the new guitarist besides MiNi and Ricky joined them as new drummer.
In 2004 they released their first demo which was sold out quickly; since 2005 they have also been noticed in Germany and the USA, a great success for the young band.
The music style changed from industrial to Nu Metal. The lyrics have been a mixture between Chinese and English and besides heavy guitars and shout vocals they've experimented with violins, the piano and ethereal "chorals" like in "Chi You".
Yans voice is a passionated metal voice and a mixture between classical singing and shout vocals.
Although Renyu haven't released their albums officially yet they have definitely no reason to hide from other genre bands.
Classifying RENYU is hard because they live their own kind of style with an honest passion which can hardly be found.
Since their vocals return from the UK in 2006, Mermaid have renamed themselves into The Falling.
