Mayday, 五月天 (Wu Yue Tian) rock band
Not to be confused with the later famous pop rock band Mayday from Hongkong!
Wu Yue Tian was an old rock band in the late 80's in Beijing, playing a sort of Chinese prototype rock which very much emerged out of the so called "north west wind", a fashion of the late 80's to perform folk songs in style of the north west region of China but in a bit modern approch. Chinese rock legend He Yong was the guitar player. Qin Yong, the later Black Panther vocalist first tried out on guitars in this band, but later switched to drums due to necessities for music arrangements. Famous jazz bass player Zhang Ling even used handmade guitar speakers due to the lack of guitar amps in those early days. The band struggled to find proper rehearsal rooms and show oppurtunities, often had arguments with neighbours when practising.
