Having played numerous shows with Fearless, I’m well-aware of their perfectionist drive, as their sound checks without fail go well over the one-hour mark. Though it’s driven me insane plenty of times, I’ve never been more thankful for their obsession with crafting the perfect mix than when listening to LoT. It shows.
Cao Dan’s drums are crisp and punchy, Guigui’s bass strikes the right mixture between being heard and felt, and the twin guitars from Maomao and Liangzi crunch away up in the front of the mix. Maomao’s raw, abrasive screams are dressed up with just a touch of reverb and placed right behind the guitars, so as to complement the instruments rather than steal the spotlight.
Lastly, Fearless must have gotten the memo about their early demos, because Man Yi’s keyboards have been scaled back a bit, tucked nicely behind the vocals and popping out exactly when they need to. Maomao and audio engineer A Lian handled the recording and mixing, with Liangzi chipping in on the mastering as well, and yeah…job very, very well done.
