Biography
B6, real name Lou Nanli 樓南立, is hailing from Shanghai and a multi-talented electronic music producer, DJ, renowned graphic artist, and co-founder of Neocha.com and the Antidote parties. His productions have explored a variety of genres, from synth-pop to IDM to breakcore and drum and bass.
As a teenager, B6 started his own independent record label (Isolation), and composed critically-acclaimed experimental sound art, ambient, and post-rock albums while also producing sound and designing album covers for various alternative music acts on the mainland. B6's graphic works have been exhibited in museums in the UK, Europe, and North America.
B6 also founded the project Aitar in 2000 with MHP (real name Ma Haiping 馬海平). Aitar released a demo album in 2001.
B6 was a member of Godot 戈多乐队 from 2000-2001, and of Junkyard at some point.
In 2006 he released a 6-CD box set of his early works and later formed I-GO with Wu Jianjing 吴建京, aka JJay Wu, the US-educated singer of Terrified Bird 惊弓之鸟乐队. Their so far best-known song, Rockself.com, is a tribute to the site of that name run by Bunnyman, real name Zhang Zhiqiang 章志強, former bandmate of both in Terrified Bird and Godot. I-GO is promoted by the UK-based Fairwood Music, which hopes to introduce them to international markets.
In November 2008, B6 released a new solo album -- B6 Post Haze on China's Modern Sky Records. "Post Haze" shows a new maturity in B6's music, with precision programming, dance-floor rocking rhythms and glitch-happy beats. Starting with smooth, atmospheric minimalism, moving into mind-bending tech-house, then a bit of bangin' techno.
In 2009, B6's "Post Haze" second edition is released in Europe and has received great reviews by the European electronic music community. He also worked with Ars-numerica, a renowned French art organization this June to finish a multimedia project. B6's next stop in Europe will be Germany, Belgium, Denmark and Switzerland in this coming November.
