History
The original Angry Jerks was formed by drummer Timma in 2000. Only 3 people were in the band after the first two months; due to laziness the guitar player quit the band. Then Timma found Gao Feng by posting on the Xici. Gao became the singer of the band and wrote all the songs for the band. After half a year the bass player quit the band after 4 shows. After searching and changing bass players & guitar players they finally found Du Wei as a second guitar player and Zhu Xiaonan bass player.
They went on tour together with SMZB the great fucking Wuhan Punk band. After the tour Timma got the VISA to America (after a few months in NYC he formed yo!scunt with a friend), so The Angry Jerks recorded their first album. Gaofeng's girlfriend became the bass player and Duwei became the drummer. Then another guitar player entered the picture, Gao Song. They toured and began to record their second album.....
June 14th 2008, they performed at a Yu Yin Tang show called Shanghai Punk vs Nanjing Punk (Bands: Loudspeaker, Mortal Fools, Overdose and Angry Jerks). According to Andy Best, With four bands on the bill the show was billed as an 8 pm start. Mortal Fools were supposed to go on first and a band member was missing so rather than adjusting the running order they put the whole show back to 10 - only to decide on putting MF on last, after all that.[1]
August 22nd, 2009, they performed as support act to The Mushrooms at the Yuyintang. According to Zack: They were pretty good pop-punk stylers. I remarked to my friend Adam that a couple songs sounded like System of a Down because he likes them.[2] According to Jake Newby: (...) Dan mentions that the band had been through a rumoured breakup and line-up reshuffle before hitting town. That certainly seems the case - gone was the double-bass and gone too were (most of) the quiffs. That meant less psychobilly and more old school punk. It was a pretty tight set and a good show nonetheless and they got the crowd buzzing.[3]
Taken from Cityweekend.com.cn:
It's been nearly eight months since Nanjing psychobilly-punks Angry Jerks have played Shanghai, but their silence ends on Saturday when the pompadour sporting, Tiger Army-loving quintet storms the Yuyintang stage.
Rumored to have broken up and shuffled their line-up around, Angry Jerks have reformed just in time for a late summer "home-and-home" with local rap-rockers The (Crazy) Mushrooms (making their second appearance in The Beat this week).
Originally a hardcore outfit, featuring members of Demerit and Overdose, Angry Jerks formed in 2000 and were an immediate hit on the punk rock circuit. Around 2007, the Jerks traded in their brightly-dyed locks and torn jeans for the quiffs and upright bass, becoming China's only psychobilly band and a fan favorite around the country.
In 2008, Angry Jerks made a number of trips to Shanghai, including headlining the only known rock show at The Shelter and playing a ripping set at the now-defunct Windows Tembo, building up a loyal local fanbase, turning every crowd onto their fist-pumping punk anthems.
