In the winter of 2010 Tim Lies saw Zhao Lizhi playing the guitar in his music store in Beixiaoying, a tiny village in Beijing's outlying Changping district. On a whim Tim decided to go in and talk to him. The two had no way to talk to each other, but they managed to arrange a regular time to meet on Monday afternoons.
Abominati was formed after the Spring Festival in 2011. Lead singer Tim Lies met with Mackenzie Nellis for a jam session after Mackenzie brought his guitar back from America. They chatted over some of their current work but didn't talk about starting a band. Tim called Mackenzie after that weekend and asked him, "Hey, if I put a bass in your hands do you think you could play?" That Monday all five members of the newly formed, as-yet unnamed band started to develop a set for performances.
It wasn't until late June that the band made its debut performance at the 13 Club in Wudaokou, Beijing. Although the name of the band was intended to be "The Abominations," a typographic error on the bulletin board that opening night inspired the band to think about a new name, "Abominati." After talks with various people, notably including Jaime Welton, lead singer of Bad Mamasan, the name was finally changed.
The band continues to build its repertoire toward a complete set but no album has been released to the public.
